The new Honda Accord has landed – and here are the first official pictures of both the saloon and estate! The production car’s design closely follows the sleek Accord Tourer Concept, which was first seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. It has a similar, sharp-edged look with a lower and wider stance than the current model. This extra width gives more space inside for occupants, and also allows the dashboard to extend from the centre console and sweep around the seats, creating a cockpit-like feel. The dash has floating backlit instruments with an LCD multifunction menu display, which the driver can navigate through steering wheel-mounted controls. New seats provide more support for added comfort. There’s big news under the Accord’s bonnet. The family car is the first model to get Honda’s second-generation diesel, the i-DTEC, which has 148bhp and 350Nm.Not only is this unit more powerful than the old i-CTDi, but it also uses a special particulate filter for much lower emissions. Other engine options include a 154bhp 2.0-litre petrol and a flagship 2.4-litre i-VTEC with 197bhp.The Accord saloon goes on sale in June, with the Tourer arriving in September. Prices are likely to be similar to those for the current model.
