New Car: 2009 Mercedes GLK

Mercedes is the first to admit the all-new GLK crossover is another urban SUV that is unlikely to spend much time in the woods. It may attempt to look tough, but its C-class genes ensure it is painless on the well-traveled road where it belongs. On the road it is “perfect,” Mercedes says. Off-road it is “balanced.”
But does it look tough? The GLK’s strangely tall greenhouse evokes the similarly proportioned Jeep Commander, and we’re heard it referred to as the “Mercedes Forester.”
But the GLK, to be built in Bremen, Germany, is a convincing little brother to the GL-class. The interior is surprisingly edgy and fashionable—Cadillac-like in places.
This is one of the few Mercedes models that won’t get an AMG version—the others being the GL and the A- and B-class which are not sold in the U.S. The R63 AMG was crossed off order forms a while ago.
