Mitsubishi Motors has signed a deal with PSA Peugeot Citroen to build an electric vehicle for the French car maker.
The new Peugeot electric car will be based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric city car, which goes on sale in Japan this summer and comes to Europe in 2010.
In a statement issued today, Mitsubishi said, “The two companies are currently in the process of negotiating a deal, with the objective of bringing a product to market at the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011.”
According to reports in the Japanese press, a Peugeot Citroen version of the i-MiEV will mean that Mitsubishi will be able to double its production volumes of its electric city car, vastly reducing production costs.
