Spied: 2010 Cadillac SRX

As we await official pictures and information on the next-generation Cadillac SRX, our spy photographers snapped the crossover testing with the heavy cladding removed.

Look for this crossover; initially referred to as the Cadillac BRX, to debut later this year or at the 2009 North American International Auto Show. Our last formal glimpse was at the 2008 Detroit auto show when we saw a precursor of the five-passenger SRX in the form of the Cadillac Provoq concept.

The new SRX hails from an update of GM’s Global Compact Crossover Architecture known as TE as it combines elements of the Theta crossover platform with some Epsilon mid-size car elements. TE has already give us the current Saturn Vue.

The outgoing SRX rides on a luxury rear-drive platform that was known as Sigma, but it was an expensive platform. Sales of the SRX were down 19 percent, to less than 11,000, for the first seven months of this year compared with last year.

Cadillac styling cues abound, with many elements of the Provoq seemingly greenlighted for the production model, notably the taillights and crease across the back.
