Hot News: Volvo Into 'Eco' Mode

Volvo has introduced ‘green’ versions of the C30, S40 and V50 coming to the UK next year. Called DRIVe, the efficiency package will be officially unveiled at next month’s Paris motor show.
Working on the same principles as Ford’s Econetic and VW’s Bluemotion, Volvo has equipped the models with various aerodynamic tweaks, the most striking being the odd-looking wind-resistant alloy wAll three DRIVe Volvos are powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine (the same as that in the Focus Econetic) mated to a high ratio gearbox. Volvo is claiming over 60mpg and sub-120g/km for all the models.
Other additions like a lowered chassis, covered radiator grille and low resistance tyres reduce drag, thus increasing range and reducing consumption.
A spokesperson for Volvo UK said that UK deliveries would begin in January and the cars would cost between £122 and £366 more than regular Volvos. (Thanks to Autocar for News and Pictures).
